The European Renal Association’s Developing Education Science and Care for Renal Transplantation in European States working group released clinical practice guidelines in January 2022. The guidelines include using waist:hip ratio in addition to body mass index in weight assessment, not delaying transplant for patients with 30–39 kg/m2 and no other contraindication to transplant, a preference for laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy over other forms of bariatric surgery, and consideration of bariatric surgery for kidney transplant candidates with a BMI ≥40 kg/m2.
